چکیده

The UMTS specification (Release 5), a third-generation mobile system, proposes an all-IP network architecture. In the near future, UMTS will offer a variety of services to users. Some of these services, e.g. real-time services, require a certain guaranteed quality of service. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a technology providing means to control data flows in IP networks. MPLS has been developed with respect to wired networks. In this paper, we propose the integration of MPLS and Hierarchical Mobile IP as a mobility solution for UMTS Access Networks together with an approach to support efficient handover of mobile nodes.

Handover Operation in Mobile IP-over-MPLS Networks

This paper examines mobility operations, and particularly handovers in an environment, where Hierarchical Mobile IP is operating over MPLS. The work in this paper improves on existing methods of MIP-MPLS interworking first by defining a simple framework based on Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) and second by outlining the relevant protocol design assumptions. In addition, the combined protocol...

Supporting Mobility Events within a Hierarchical Mobile IP-over-MPLS Network

This paper examines mobility events, and particularly handovers in an overlay environment, where Hierarchical Mobile IP is operating over MPLS. The overlay operation is examined in detail under two scenarios and a comprehensive explanation of the operation of intraand inter-cell handovers is presented. Furthermore, it improves on existing methods of MIP-MPLS interworking first by defining a sim...

Mobility label based network: Hierarchical mobility management and packet forwarding architecture

Scalability of the network layer mobility management solution is one of the most important requirements for the mobility control plane. Mobility Label Based Network (MLBN) is a new approach to the network layer mobility management problem that relies solely on MPLS to provide both macroand micro-mobility for IPv4 and IPv6 mobile hosts and routers. This new approach does not rely on the existing...

M-MPLS: Micromobility-enabled multiprotocol label switching

This paper presents the integration of multiprotocol label switching with hierarchical mobile IPv6. The resulting micromobility-based MPLS (M-MPLS) is defined in two modes of operation: overlay and integrated. In an overlay framework MPLS and HMIP operate on their respective layers without having common processes, tables, or signaling. In an integrated framework, related functions are merged. T...

PM2PLS: An Integration of Proxy Mobile IPv6 and MPLS

This paper proposes a handover scheme supporting MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) in a Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) domain that improves the mobility and gives Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Engineering (TE) capabilities in wireless access networks. The proposed scheme takes advantages of both PMIPv6 and MPLS. PMIPv6 was designed to provide NETwork-based Localized Mobility Management (N...
